"After having made a small fire earlier to dry the soapstone, this morning I took the Green Mountain for its first real spin, to "off-gas" the paint and see it in operation. Briefly, I couldn't be happier. Based on Nathan's tutelage and the owner's manual, I worked out how to properly get the fire going, and then to set the catalytic converter once it was hot enough. After that, I just marveled at the contrast with my previous stove. The steady burn rate for the logs was so much longer (the price of the stove will obviously be offset by substantial savings in firewood) and the heat retention is amazing. I let the fire (which wasn't too blazing) die out 3 hours ago and the stove is still quite warm to the touch. So.
