Colorado Mountain Dogs

G2 and G3 Great Pyrenees & Anatolian Shepherd Outcrosses

You can also visit our page on the Colorado Mountain Dog Registry Website

Our Dogs are indispensable to our work in raising small acreage livestock - we love our goats, lambs, horse, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and all the fresh milk and eggs they provide... so we enlist the help of these magnificent beings to protect the entire family. They guard against coyotes, skunks, racoons, the occasional mountain lion and bear, and they even perform air patrol!

As the possibility of wolf predation nears for southern Colorado, we are concurrently attempting to increase the size, athleticism, and discernment abilities of our pack and yours.

The Colorado Mountain Dog is a livestock guardian dog specifically bred for small acreage farming.   We are selecting for creatures which tend to wander less and bark appropriately only, who bond easily with their livestock, function well in a pack, and who are healthy, intelligent, sensitive, and strong.

Pack Operating Standards

Our pack grandsire is W2E King Boaz, who has tested completely free of genetic health concerns.  He and grand dam UUU Willow of MMC also have passed their hip tests.

Anastasia is a very unique G2, with amazing presence and depth of demeanor that matches her physical stature and grace.  Embark genetic test awaiting completion as of 2/19/24

We allow our whelping to occur naturally in dirt bowls to facilitate puppies' healthy developing pelvis structure and safety.  As soon as possible we introduce friendly goats to the puppies under supervision, and they are integrated into the herd thenceforth.  Dogs live as a pack and have access to 7 acres of pasture on our dairy goat farm.

We allow our clients to combine a best fit recommendation with their choice of puppy, and allow pups to go home at ten weeks of age.  Those who have made reservations receive numerous photo updates to help them choose and get to know their pups as they grow

All puppies are provided routine vaccinations, registration with the CMDR, and microchip if requested.  As we have young children they are naturally acclimated to being around kids too, as well as as much poultry introduction and training as possible before they leave.

Litters are kept to minimum - one per year and not more than 5 at most in a lifetime.

All of our animals are treated humanely and have access to adequate pasture, family units are kept intact, and feed is vital and highest quality (Victor dogfood + goat milk for pups and our own eggs; goats get sprouted barley + oats, and we grow our own hay)

All breeding candidates must prove their worth in evaluations for temperament and health, upholding the high standards of the CMDR as this is a breed in development and only the best contributors are viable.

Our Focus is on Dogs who have been called upon by their human counterparts to answer the call of duty to repel predators on ranches and wilderness homesteads.  Family dog applicants must provide more extensive references and proof of experience and/or understanding of the unique nature of this giant breed.

MMC Anastasia is our first foray into the CMD world, bred here at Milky Way Mountain Caprines ( a Bo+Willow daughter), raised with our flock and family, and stunning us with her beauty and presence.  She has a depth and grace that is undeniably special, and our hope is to have a few litters by her with select studs to maximize her contribution to the breed.

"Ben is, hands down, the most intuitive dog I have ever seen. He knows when I’m not feeling well …. And he comes back, instead of running ahead, and walks beside me to steady my steps. The look he has …. It’s like he understands. I cannot explain it, I just know I have a bond with this animal that I’ve never had with any other. And at my age, I’ve had lots!! Thank you, Heather, for such a magnificent animal. Your pairing was perfect!" - Leslie Anne James Randall
